How Do You Know When You're Ready to Ride Again?
For my 62nd birthday, I have a goal.
Rider setting a goal to rebuild confidence and ride again after a break
I'm going riding.
Not "maybe."
Not "if I feel brave enough."
I'm riding.
That one decision changes everything.
Instead of asking myself every day, "Am I ready yet?" I started asking a different question:

"What do I need to do between now and then to be ready?"

Those are two very different conversations.
One keeps us waiting.
The other gets us moving.  (This one is KEY!)

🐴 Ready Doesn't Just Happen

I used to think confidence would magically show up one morning.
I'd wake up.
Feel different.
And suddenly be ready to ride.
It doesn't work that way.
Confidence is built long before your foot ever touches the stirrup.
It's built in the preparation.

🐴 My Three Questions

Instead of asking, "Am I ready?" I ask myself three questions.

Is my horse ready?
Have I done the groundwork?
Is my horse physically and mentally prepared?

Is my body ready?
  • Moving
  • Flexibility
  • Balance
  • Strength
  • Energy
Because a body that feels strong gives the brain one less reason to worry.

Is my mind ready?

Have I been practicing confidence?
Or have I been practicing worry?
The brain gets good at whatever we repeat.
So I want mine rehearsing confidence.

🐴 Tiny Steps Count

Maybe your goal isn't riding on your birthday.
Maybe it's riding before Christmas.
Maybe it's riding before your granddaughter visits.
Maybe it's simply sitting in the saddle again.
Whatever your destination is...
Pick one.
Then work backward.
Every tiny step becomes a victory.

🐴 You'll Know

People often ask me,
"How do I know when I'm ready to ride again?"
Here's my answer.
You'll probably still have butterflies.
I did.
Being ready doesn't mean all the nerves disappear.
It means you've prepared well enough that confidence has something solid to stand on.
Fear may still whisper.
But preparation speaks louder.
And that's usually the moment you'll discover you've been more ready than you realized.

Your next ride doesn't begin when you put your foot in the stirrup.

It begins today.
Every stretch.
Every healthy choice.
Every confidence-building step is preparing you for the ride that's waiting ahead.
If you're ready to build that foundation, Join the Healthy Rider Reset™ Waitlist and let's start preparing your body to support the confident rider you know is still in there.

Hey there! I’m Elise Hittinger—Fear Slayer, Confidence Creator, and your go-to Courage Coach.

Once upon a time, I was that fearless kid riding deep into Angeles National Forest without a second thought. Then bam—life threw me a plot twist. A horse flipped on me, pinning me beneath it, and fear crept in like an uninvited guest who wouldn’t leave.

That moment tested everything. But here’s the wild part—I walked away with only bruises and a divine reminder that I wasn’t done yet. Fear may have stolen my joy for a while, but it did not get the final say.

Fast forward to a move to Kentucky, where the trails were calling my name. I had two choices: let fear keep the reins or take them back. Spoiler alert—I took them back. Now, I help other riders (and, honestly, anyone sick of fear running their life) do the same.

I make fear pack its little bags and GTFO. Whether it’s through hypnotherapy, NLP, or a little well-placed humor, I help people trade anxiety for confidence, doubt for courage, and overthinking for action.

So, if you’re ready to kick fear to the curb and rediscover the joy you deserve—I’m here for it. Let’s do this.
